Getting your sh*t together

  1. Collect and sort Laundry.

Get a handle not the laundry from the week.  As a mom, we all know that Sundays are not a day of rest, they are a day of countless loads of laundry.  Today was 8 for me.  Yup.

I gather all the laundry, separate it on the bathroom floor (linen, towels, clothing (darks / lights) and begin first thing in the morning.

  1. Turn on my favourite Playlist and hit the kettle.

While the kettle boils I make my breakfast smoothie, put out the supplements and while I drink that I make myself a cup of tea.   While I drink these I literally stare out the window at the gorgeous day I have been blessed with and practice some gratitude.

  1. Grab my Phone for a clean up.

Once I finish up with my breakfast smoothie and tea, I grab my phone and start to clean out all non-essential chats from the week.  If I see there is an important message or image I need to keep, I *star* it and delete the rest of the chat. (Keeping all stared messages).

  1. Grab my Diary/Planner.

I like to review my schedule for the week ahead.  I like to know what I have coming up and what my week looks like.

I like the idea of time blocking so I generally plan as much as possible so I know how much free time I have in the week or what gaps I can fill.  This prevents me from feeling overwhelmed or swamped on any given day.

I plan my 1-2-3 (See Tips to rock your time management – https://www.nancyjameson.co.za/2021/06/01/tips-to-rock-your-time-management/(opens in a new tab)) for Monday and whatever I don’t think I will get to, move over to Tuesday.

  1. Check my Bank Account.

I check on my bank account and reference to my budget for the week ahead.  Keeping in mind what needs to be paid or come into my account.

  1. Order in.

My new favourite is the grocery app.  I check out what’s needed, place the order and it’s delivered to my door. (No need to hit the shops anymore – what a pleasure).

  1. Sort my Email inbox.

I DO NOT REPLY to any new emails on a Sunday.

I file away into folders or delete emails that are not needed.  While I’m at it, I unsubscribe from spam….

  1. Paint my nails.

A set of freshly painted nails for the new week always make me feel more confident and in control – nothing else “kept”.

  1. Clear out my workspace.

If you work from home, clean out your workspace.  Organise your papers, and pack away your stationary.  If you have a “work bag” with all your papers and laptop inside, clean that out and organise it so that you can start the new week with clear intentions.  If I need to make notes on my papers with sticky’s now is the time that I do this.  Eg.  Scan and send off to…., or file away.

  1. Shower hour.

I give my hair a treatment, shave my legs, apply a face mask. (My ultimate is the Herbalife Mint Mask….delish!) While I wait for my face mask to set, I clean out and tidy up my make up box.  Cleaning my make up brushes if needed and checking on my mascara while I’m there.

  1. What is your family tradition?

Most families do a Sunday meal.  Ours is a Sunday roast after the F1.  I prep this early on in the day so that it’s just a case of cooking it when the time comes.  Some people do snacks and boardgames, or even a nice lunch out after church.

  1. Clean out my handbag and purse.

I take out all the slips from the week, old masks, put away any coins I might have tossed inside my bag during the week.

  1. Call a loved one.

I make a call or send a text to a friend or loved one who I haven’t connected with for a while.

I hope some of these help you feel more organised in your mind and space for the week ahead.

Much love…
